Used this monitor for a month now
I’ve used aver v223 monitor for a month now and I have no complaints. I mainly use this monitor for online games and internet. I have noticed that when the screen is black, especially if you have a black background, then there is light bleed at the top and bottom of the monitor. But, unless you are using your monitor to watch movies in a dark room, it’s not something you will notice after you’ve been using it for awhile.
Other then that, the dvi cable is a bit short, you might want to buyt a longer one depending on where you have your PC.
Overall, I think this is a great monitor especially for the resolution it can provide and the price.

very pleased with acer v223
By L. Fry “pretty good knitter” (Scottsdale, Arizona United States)
I’ve been using this acer v223 monitor for a couple of days and am very pleased with it. I do have some problems with the size of some things on the screen but they all have to do with some ancient programs which I can’t enlarge or the size font used on a lot of web sites. I’ve managed to enlarge some things such as my browser frame and changed the font size on a lot of my documents to 14. I just hope I remember to change them back to 12 before I print them and that webmasters will start using larger fonts as more and more users switch to larger screens.
Sometimes Amazon is just plain amazing!
My 6 month old HP 22in went down on me (bad panel button) and needed to be sent back to factory. Since I am employed online I needed an inexpensive replacement to tide me over. I ordered acer v223 at 11:30 Tuesday morning and it arrived at my home Thursday at 10:45 AM. This was mid December and I used only the free shipping option. Less than 48 hours…Simply amazing!! The monitor is much better than expected, arriving in pristine condition and every bit as good as my far more costly HP. I fully intend to get 2 more of these for my husband and son. Handles graphics well. Color and resolution just fine. Thank you Amazon for the great service and surprisingly good product.
Incredible value
I asked for and got acer nifty monitor for my birthday. Been jonesing for a larger monitor ever since I gave up my desktop computer two years ago, but my wallet said no. When I began learning AutoCAD with its many palettes, ribbons, and command lines, working on my 15″ MacBook screen became unbearable. With a $200 limit, I started looking at what was out there, and was excited to find this one, cheap and well-reviewed. Amazon delivered it in next to no time even with the free shipping option (thanks guys!). I’m happy to report that I love this monitor. We’re a mixed Mac and Windows household (I use VM Fusion to boot XP, and my partner’s got a Dell); this little gem works seamlessly with either laptop sans special drivers (woohoo!) plus we get lots of entertainment mileage watching movies on it (we channel sound through the stereo that sits underneath). This is all through a crisp digital connection, which I highly recommend. Can’t report any unbearably long waits for the computer to sync with the monitor (I’m guessing about ten seconds) — so perhaps that’s an analog problem. Lack of height/tilt adjustment is a minor inconvenience. Took a star off for that (wish it could be just half of one).
I love it!
After reading all the reviews on this aver v223 monitor I was a little afraid of getting stuck with a dead pixel or two, but I received mine in perfect condition. When I wake it from sleep mode it takes about 2-3 seconds for it to wake, but when it does the screen is there immediately. No waiting for the screen to gradually appear like a conventional monitor. I use mine for internet and watching some videos, so I can’t rate this monitor for the gamers out there. The menu buttons are lined up neatly in the bottom right corner and they don’t stick out like a sore thumb, however, the labels for each menu button are sort of embossed into the frame and very hard to see without a flashlight, so you have to memorize them. The menu is fairly easy to navigate with a little practice. The screen is very bright at the default setting. I have mine set to the “user” setting most of the time which is considerably dimmer. I also set my brightness setting to about 10. If you set the resolution to the native 1680×1050 you are going to have the same tiny fonts as a 17″ monitor delivers. Everything is just stretched out more to fill up the screen. I set mine to 1280×768 and everything is much bigger and easier to read. This was my objective in buying a bigger monitor. Even at this resolution, the clarity and detail are very good. If you want a big, good looking black monitor at a great price, I think this is a great deal at a great price!
Pixels misfire, User’s Manual says to expect that
I suppose this is still a good monitor for the money, but it’s the oly one that I’ve had this kind of trouble with. I’ve had this one for 3 days now. So far I’ve had to mess with it about 7 times to fix the “misfiring pixels”. Occasionally, the monitor display becomes dotted with red pixels, which is annoying and distracting. No attempt to fix this problem seems to work consistently. The monitor just decides on its own when to display properly and when not to. Here’s what the User’s Manual has to say about that:
“The LCD unit is produced with high-precision manufacturing techniques. Nevertheless, some pixels may occasionally misfire or appear as black or red dots. This has no effect on the recorded image and does not constitute a malfunction.”
Perhaps the guys at Acer don’t mind this. Or maybe they use Sony monitors themselves. It sure feels like a malfunction to me - one that I’ve never encountered on other monitors, and one that occurs more frequently than anything that’s not considered a malfunction!
If you can afford a few extra bucks for a monitor that works properly most of the time, you may want to skip this one.
