Barely acceptable in the office, I would not have it at home
By Arthur Dent “Aragorn” (USA)
I ordered this monitor for the office and it is pretty good value for what I paid and this is the best I can say about it.
When reviewing electronics I am always tempted to list the ‘goods’ and the ‘bads’ but, in this case, except for the price, which is ‘good’ and the warranty provisions, which are ridiculous (read below), just about everything else is… bland. Not too bad but not exceptional either. So, let me list what’s worth knowing about it and I will have a few closing thoughts after that.
- 1680-1050 display
- VGA and DVI inputs (no HDMI), cables included
- displayed colors appear to be a best effort approximation (they don’t look very good, I meant to say)
- cheap-looking, black plastic body and stand
- plugs directly into the power outlet (no external power supply)
- color management is pretty basic with not the best ‘buttons’ interface
- disk includes 2-page setup manual and a registration form, no drivers
- same 2-page manual is included on paper, in many languages
- 3-year warranty ‘excludes plastic parts’ (I swear, it’s a quote)
- warranty does not cover shipping/insurance costs
- make you save your original invoice and the original packaging or you may experience problems if you ever need warranty repairs
- stand tilts but it can’t be raised/lowered
- energy-star compliant
This is a good monitor if price is the primary concern. In my case, price was the primary concern because my boss had to approve the purchase and employers tend not to be over-generous with such expenses these days. Like I mentioned before, I would definitely not have this monitor at home. It would probably be very bad for displaying pictures or playing movies and the design… you can’t mistake it for a not-bare-bones-cheap monitor.
I am reluctantly granting this item 3 stars and 2 out of the three are awarded for its cheapness. The third star is for its actually displaying a picture and for its ease of setup.

Oh, one good word for the seller. It came, believe it or not, from Buy.com and it was shipped quickly, via FedEx. Good job.
Excellent Value - Used in a Cross Platform Environment
By Tarun Chachra “Tarun Chachra” (Hillsborough, NJ)
You cannot go wrong with a 22″ screen at this price…. It is a great value.
We use it in our offices for both MAC Mini’s and PC’s alike. There are some little quirks with these screens…but usually powering them off and on resolves the issue. The colors are vivid and bright. The resolutions…depending on video cards…are exactly what are needed in a office environment.
I give this a 4/5 only because of those quirks…other then that it is a GREAT monitor at a great PRICE.
good value-Acer V223-WBD
We bought this for my sister as a Christmas present. She uses the computer for basic home computing (eg. looking at photos).
Overall, the picture quality is very good and to date we have not experienced any problems.
Price was a big factor in selecting the Acer V223-WBD 22″.
I did look at a lot of monitors in this price range and felt this one offered the best quality for the dollar.
I’m not an expert in monitors but to be honest I did not really see any major differences in the picture quality of this monitor with ones pricing in the high $300 to $400 range.
Beautiful display; exceptional value
Acer V223-WBD has been a joy for these aging eyes to behold. It was a snap to set up and configure for Ubuntu 8.04, and it configured just as easily at its native 1680X1050 resolution in every virtual machine (using VMWare Server 2.0) save for the WinXP VM.
Great, accurate color rendering. Works very well with my nVidia chipset (the nVidia configuration utility does a slightly better job working with the monitor than the built-in Ubuntu configuration utility, but both gave good results). I like the choice between DVI and analog inputs, though I’m using the DVI. Great DVD display, clear text, good graphic rendition. I read a lot of eBooks on my computer, and this display is really easy on my eyes. All-in-all an excellent buy. I’m tempted to get another and add it to my other DVI output.
Best computer equipment purchase I’ve made in quite some time on a cost/benefit, bang-for-the-buck basis.
Standard, “free” delivery was exceptionally fast.
